Questions we get a lot.

What does "Tier 3" actually mean?

It's the tier the phone tree is designed to keep you away from. Tier 1 reads a script. Tier 2 escalates. Tier 3 is the engineer other engineers escalate to — the one who's seen your exact problem a hundred times and fixes it without a runbook.

At Deft Minds, Tier 3 isn't the top of the ladder. It's the whole ladder. Every person you talk to is the person who fixes it.

What do you actually cover?

The whole stack. Every major cloud — Azure, AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft 365. VMware, top to bottom. Every server OS — Windows Server and the full Linux family. And the firewalls that actually run the perimeter: Palo Alto, Fortigate.

If it's in your rack or your tenant, it's ours to fix.

What's your actual response time when something goes sideways?

The contract says two hours. In practice, our average first touch is about five minutes — because you're not opening a ticket, you're posting in a Slack channel where a Tier 3 engineer is already reading, or calling a phone number a human actually answers.

No phone tree. No "your ticket has been received" auto-reply. Something's on fire, you say so, and an engineer is looking at it before you've finished describing it.

How does the retainer work?

A base retainer keeps a Tier 3 bench on call for the day-to-day — the breaks, the questions, the 2 AM pages. Project work runs as flex hours on top: scale up for the migration, scale back down when it ships.

Month to month, like everything else we do. No three-year lock-in, no auto-renew traps.

Do you document your configurations, or do you keep the keys to the kingdom?

We despise hostaged documentation. When we finish a deployment — whether it's an urgent tenant cleanup, a complex firewall cutover, or deploying strict Microsoft Purview DLP rules — everything is clearly mapped, documented, and handed back to your team.

Your internal systems engineer keeps ultimate control. We retain our clients by delivering elite engineering execution, never by locking up your passwords or keeping your architecture details in the dark.

We already have an IT person. Is that a problem?

It's the opposite of a problem — it's our favorite setup. Your person stays in charge and keeps the controls. We're the senior bench behind them: the overflow, the projects, the second opinion at 2 AM.

Fair warning

We're not for everyone. That's the point.

Every Deft Minds engineer is Tier 3. That means our bench is small and it doesn't scale like a call center — because it isn't one. We cap the client roster so quality never dilutes.

When slots are full, they're full. The waitlist is real.

No sales call, no discovery deck. If we're not the right fit, we'll tell you straight and point you somewhere better.
